World Health Organization
Given the changing demographics with regard to aging worldwide, the WHO launched a project to determine from elders themselves what they would like to see in an age-friendly city. Focus groups were conducted in 35 cities in 22 countries from every continent. The findings are summarized in a guide available at WHO’s web-site:
http://www.who.int/ageing/age_friendly_cities/en/index.html
In the U.S., New York City has launched a project to implement this guide, information is available at: http://www.agefriendlynyc.org/about
If you are interested in forming an informal group to begin discussions around planning and implementing similar programs, and in WHO’s focus group protocol, please contact Sarita Bhalotra, bhalotra@brandeis.edu
