Louis Lowy Award

The Massachusetts Gerontology Association is seeking nominations for the 2011 Louis Lowy Award. The award is given to an individual who has made important contributions to the field of aging in Massachusetts. Former recipients have made contributions in service directly to older people, to the world of policy and politics with regard to aging, to the operation of organizations that serve older people, to theories of service and aging, and to the Association itself.

Louis Lowy, for whom the award is named, was a professor of Social Work at Boston University who contributed a great deal to the development of social gerontology in Massachusetts.  Professor Lowy was a founder of the Association.

Former winners include: Joan Hatem-Roy, Chet Jakubiak, Ann L. Hartstein, Robert Morris, Joanne Bluestone, Elsie Frank, Phyllis Mustchler, Scott Harshbarger, Sister Eileen Driscoll, Paul Raia, Lillian Glickman, Anna Bissonnette, Ed Flynn, Sandy Albright, Alan Rosenfeld, Ellen Bruce, Richard Rowland and Andrea Cohen. 

The Lowy Award will be presented during the Annual Meeting of the Massachusetts Gerontology Association on May 5, 2011. The Annual Meeting is being held in the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.

Letters of nomination should include the name of an individual nominee, the reasons that the nominee is deserving of the award, and the name and contact information for the person or persons offering the nomination.

Nominations must be submitted prior to April 5, 2011
